Where creativity meets workflow: A letter from our CEO

The creative process matters.

Artists spend hours honing their craft. Starting and restarting. Learning and relearning. We see our customers in their homes and their studios, browsing libraries of sounds, switching back and forth from plugins to instruments. Some grab inspiration when it comes, jotting down ideas regardless of where and when it strikes, with phones full of half-started sparks as voice memos. For others, it’s about repetition, starting every day the exact same way.

But whatever the process, the creative flow is crucial, and anything that blocks flow can be painful and a distraction. In the past few months, we’ve studied how we can get deeper into existing workflows, to simplify the experience but also make it more creatively fulfilling. Putting Splice inside the DAW felt like the natural step to empower even more creators to start with sound. We set about trying to find a partner who shared our vision for a tool that gave creators more choice, more control, and more of what they wanted.

We found that shared vision and partnership in the teams from PreSonus and Fender. Both share a deep respect for creators, their process, and their output. We aligned on a sound-first creative experience that puts more control in the hands of musicians. And last week, we went live with our first-ever deep DAW integration in Studio One Pro 7. Building the Splice world into a DAW is the result of a lot of hard work and focus. We hope you can try it out here, and if you have any questions, get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to assist you.

For Splice, 2024 has been about enhancing workflow. In July, we added functionality that puts your musical ideas at the center of discovery on Splice. Anyone can upload their own loop, use Splice to automatically find complimentary sounds, and build Stack after Stack around their own original idea—with the full power of Stacks to change the key, adjust the tempo, audition different instruments, or even switch genres along the way.

We know you like using samples, but also want to avoid using what other producers might have used already. Sometimes, you want something that feels wholly unique, so we introduced Rare Finds. If Splice is crate digging, Rare Finds is the back room where the real treasures live.

You also told us you needed a better outside-of-the-studio experience. We know your workflow away from the DAW needs to be different, so we updated our mobile app to focus on fast browsing and quick idea creation. We’ve refocused our design with Sounds at the center, highlighting our Stacks capability.

Looking ahead, we remain committed to working closely with you to earn a place in your creative workflow, while we continue to scour the globe for the highest-quality, inspiring sounds. The team has just returned from ADE where they previewed a new way to develop song ideas, so stay tuned for new capabilities coming soon. Another team just got back from Sao Paulo, Brazil, where they captured the raw sounds of the city, so expect some new packs to launch as well. In the meantime, please keep sharing your feedback with us—we’re listening and we’re ready to build the future of music with you.
